Exclusive - Interview Bandon RFC and Munster U20 David O'Driscoll

What is your earliest rugby memory with Bandon RFC? was watching the Bandon J4s team win their cup final against cork con in 1994 my father was playing for them, when clearly his time was up!

Who is your favourite Irish Rugby and world rugby player and why? My favourite Irish rugby player is Peter Stringer because of the pace he brings to the game with the speed of his pass. My favourite World rugby player is Joost Van Der Westhuizen because he was a fantastic player who in my opinion had the perfect rugby brain

How much water do you drink before matches and why? 1 to 2 hours before a match i try to drink up to a litre of water, it is important to not to drink it all at once because this will flush out nutrients

You have played and won a senior cup medal with Presentation College Cork – what position did you play and what does it mean to hold a Munster schools senior cup medal? I played scrumhalf for the Cup winning side in the season of 2006/2007. Winning the Senior Cup had a special meaning to me because my dad would bring myself and my brothers to watch the Cup final every St. Patricks day from a young age. I knew about the professionalism and the importance of the cup and to win it was an incredible feeling that i will never forget

What is it like to be back playing outhalf for the Bandon U18s and also for the Bandon senior team? I started playing rugby with bandon at the age of 5 and have had some great coaches and team-mates down the line. After leaving Bandon to play for P.B.C at 16, i felt in debt to Bandon Rugby Club and playing alongside my friends who i have grown up with all of my life is also fantastic and very satisfying.

How important is nutrition and proper food when it comes to rugby? The goal of every rugby player may differ, but eating healthy is essential for optimum strength. having a balanced diet is key for having a clear mind.

What is your favourite book? My favourite book is George Best's autobiography

How do you balance your rugby with your studies? Thats a tricky one! it is important to study as much as you can throughout the week in order to have time to sacrifice for training and matchs

You are involved in the current Munster U20 set-up, what is the difference between the Munster U20 set up and rugby training in Pres? In Pres there are 3 intense training sessions throughout the week and two Gym sessions before school with a match at the weekend, these kind of trainings prepare the player both physically and mentally. Players involved with Munster teams are expected to be fit and well skilled, and it is up to the Schools and Clubs to provide this, therefore i think training with P.B.C is tougher at the end of the day.

What is you favourite TV programme? my favourite TV programme is Entourage.

How important is it to have the right attitude for rugby? having the right attitude is key, The more you put into the game-The more you get out of it.

What is your favourite try of all time? would be Gareth Edwards try in the 1973 match when the Barbarians beat New Zealand, and personally my favourite try was scoring against Leicester academy in Welford Rd
