Bandon U13’s played Kinsale in their first ever full 15-a-side match on Sat 3rd Oct. A squad of 19 players turned up and each member got to play in at least 3 quarters of the game. All players played their part in a good quality game.
The game started with both sides passing the ball across the line and testing out the defence, but after 10 minutes Bandon broke through with Gary Deane crossing the line and Ben Kingston converting. Two minutes later Alex McSweeney broke through to score with Ben converting again to leave Bandon ahead 14-0 after the first quarter.
With Bandon taking the opportunity to try players in different positions the second and third quarters were tight. Captain for the day, Senan Healy, making some great line breaks and Ciaran Lordan and Elliot Asemota putting in some big tackles. Both sides scored twice in this period, Gary Deane getting two more with Shane O’Leary converting once for Bandon.
Bandon piled on the pressure in the last quarter, Gary going in again and Alex dragged three men over the line to score again, but the try of the day was scored by Ben after taking a good early pass from Mark Bateman Ben dummied left ran straight past four players then side stepped the full back to score under the posts for Bandon to run out winners by 43points to 10.
Bandon will have learnt a lot from their first full game but have a lot to improve on before playing Highfield in two weeks.
